Podcasting in the primary grades has really taken off! You can now listen to the first grade students in Mrs. Glynn’s class share their thoughts about butterflies by visiting the grade 1 FFES page. Also, Mrs. Rogers’ students read poems aloud and they have been added to the grade 1 WES page. Feel free to leave a comment of encouragement for all of the hard work these young students have done!
What fun we are having! April 6, 2008

We are having such a wonderful time sharing here on our little blog! What started out as a simple graduate class project has now evolved into so much more! Students are excited about being recorded and are asking when they’ll be able to do it again. Students are listening to their friends in their own schools and are interested in what is going on at the other school where I work. It’s great to view the comments from family and friends-near and far! If you could see the look on the children’s faces when a new comment is shared–they are truly priceless! I’m encouraging more and more classes to become involved so please visit the links to the grades 3 & 4 blog and the grade 5 blogs where podcasts and poetry readings will be included within the next month. Thank you for taking the time to visit and enjoy!
I learned something new! March 30, 2008

YEAH! I finally had some time to change Mrs. Johnson’s tree frog files from wav format to mp3 format. This will allow for faster and easier listening. I didn’t realize the difference in the file type would have an impact but if you tried to listen to any of Mrs. Johnson’s students read their paragraphs, it might have taken several minutes to load the file as compared to the seconds it takes to load the other files on this blog. The reason this was happening was because I mistakenly uploaded Mrs. Johnson’s class files as wav files. Well, I guess I learned something new and I’m really excited that I was able to figure it out and fix it!!
Commenting on this blog March 25, 2008

I just wanted to clarify how comments are posted on any pages of this blog. If you decide to make a comment about something on any of the blog pages, you fill out your name (students–first names only please!) and comment and then hit submit. I must first approve a comment before you will see it online. If you notice that your comment looks different than you originally posted, it might be because I’ve done some editing so the students will understand what you’ve written! Please remember that this blog is for first and second grade students, their classmates and their families so make appropriate choices when commenting! Thank you!

I had to change the theme of this blog because of some glitches I was experiencing. This new theme will allow for easier navigation! Enjoy!
Podcasts: Our first attempts March 12, 2008

I’ve been working with students and teachers at both of my elementary schools to create podcasts. Actually, these first attempts at recording the students are more like oral sharing without any bells and whistles. This is a great way for students to share what they’re doing in school with their families here and abroad. You can listen to Mrs. Johnson’s first graders share their thoughts on the Red Eyed Tree Frog and Mrs. Drollett’s second graders share reports on various animals. Also, you can find pen pal messages from Mrs. Perkson’s second grade class to their friends in China. Mrs. Rogers first graders’ Wall of Fame project is now online too! In the weeks ahead, I hope to include many more classes in this new endeavor: Mrs. Glynn’s first graders will be sharing about the life cycle of the butterfly and Mrs. Hamilton’s class will share their BioPoems. We’d love to hear what you think! Feel free to leave a comment here or on the grade level pages after you’ve listened to our online podcasts. Enjoy!
What’s in a name? February 14, 2008

Sometimes, when you think something is going to be really easy, it becomes a daunting task. Like naming this blog for example. After viewing lots of cleverly named blogs, I began to sweat and struggle with a name for this one. I started to think about the purpose behind this blog and realized that my goal is to share all of the good things we are doing to integrate technology into the regular curriculum. With that thought in mind (and also for being known to say this on a daily basis around my schools), I came up with IT’S ALL GOOD and I think it fits.
